MudGate on the web and Steam
The web version is a free shared multiplayer world. The Steam edition hosts its own Windows game for solo play or online and LAN co-op.
Use the shared web version
Browser play needs no download. New guests entering the shared world normally begin in Lowbird Forest, but guest access is limited and progress cannot be saved until they register.
You can explore the shared world alone, travel with non-player companions, or form a player party.
Host a game through Steam
Steam supports single-player, online co-op, LAN co-op, Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud, and Family Sharing. A host can play with up to seven friends, for eight players in total.
One friend can join a Steam-hosted game through Guest Link in a browser. A free Steam demo is available.
Receive supported Nexus events
The Steam edition connects to the Nexus Relay at MudGate.com. The relay carries supported events from the shared web world into the locally hosted game.
The official website also links a separately sold standalone application for single-player games and private servers; it uses the same Nexus Relay connection.
